Sistema is looking for a Front-End Web Developer with our government client based in San Antonio, TX for a 6-month position.  

***This hybrid position may require onsite work at our client’s site in San Antonio, TX
Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.***

Website Design & UI/UX: The Front-End Web Developer/Web Designer supports the ongoing development, enhancement, and design of the Texas Cyber Command (TXCC) website. The role determines page structure and layout, balancing function with aesthetics, and designs both by building from designs and brand standards provided by TXCC and by producing original designs as needed. Responsibilities include developing site maps, information architecture, user flows, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes; creating responsive, responsive, mobile-first layouts, consistent with TXCC visual brand standards; and conducting usability reviews to improve navigation, content findability, and the overall experience for the site's audiences, including the public, government and industry partners, media, and the greater cybersecurity community. The role maintains reusable design components and a site style guide to support consistent page creation.
Front-End Development: The Front-End Web Developer/Web Designer builds the layouts and interfaces they design. The role writes well-structured, testable, and efficient code using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; builds and maintains templates, content types, views, blocks, and layout configurations; and ensures pages render and perform correctly across browsers and devices. The role applies core, module, and theme updates to TXCC-approved CMS system, manages code through development, test, and production environments, and troubleshoots and resolves front-end and display issues.
Feature Development: The Web Developer plans, designs, builds, and tests new website capabilities as TXCC's digital needs evolve. Anticipated features include web forms and form submission workflows, press release publishing, dashboard development, site-wide alert and notification banners, and event calendars. For each feature, the role gathers requirements from TXCC stakeholders, recommends approaches that use supported capabilities, configuration and editorial workflows, and trains TXCC staff and contractors to manage content independently.
Accessibility, Security & Performance: The Web Developer ensures all design and development work complies with Texas state website and accessibility requirements and conducts accessibility testing using automated tools and manual review before release. Consistent with TXCC's cybersecurity mission, the role follows secure development practices, protects form data and user submissions, applies security updates promptly, and complies with TXCC security and data-handling requirements. The role also monitors and improves site performance, mobile responsiveness, search engine optimization (SEO), and other user experience (UX) considerations.
Collaboration & Documentation: The Front-End Web Developer/Web Designer works closely with the TXCC Strategic Communications team and other TXCC stakeholders to translate communications goals into website solutions, provide time and effort estimates, prioritize requests, and report progress on assigned work. The role maintains technical and design documentation, including code repository, configuration details, style guides, and editor guides, to support continuity and knowledge transfer at the end of the engagement.

Candidate must provide a portfolio or links to live websites demonstrating both UI/UX design and web development work.

  5 Required UI/UX and website design experience, including user research, page structure and layout, information architecture, wireframes, mockups, interactive prototypes, search engine optimization (SEO), and responsive, mobile-first design and optimization.
  5 Required Web development experience building and maintaining responsive website layouts and interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, including custom theming, content types, views, blocks, module configuration, and custom module development.
  4 Required Experience building web forms and submission workflows (e.g., Drupal Webform), including validation, email notifications, submission routing, and integration with back-end services or APIs.
  4 Required Experience designing and developing websites that meet accessibility standards, including testing with automated tools and assistive technologies.
  4 Required Experience producing design files, component libraries, and style guides using Figma, Adobe XD, Adobe Creative Cloud, or comparable design tools.
  2 Preferred Experience building web forms and submission workflows (e.g., Microsoft 365), dashboard development, event calendars, news or press release publishing, and site-wide alert or notification banners.
  2 Preferred Experience working on state government, municipal government, or other public-sector websites
  2 Preferred Experience with web analytics and AI SEO.
